We recognise that situations will occur where you’re unable to fulfil your CPD requirements. In exceptional circumstances you'll be able to apply for a waiver for the period when you’re not active in the workplace. Waivers only apply to verifiable CPD, so if you're granted a waiver, you still have to complete your annual CPD declaration confirming that you have completed your non-verifiable requirement and your adjusted verifiable requirement.
A minimum of one month's absence from work is required in order to be eligible for a CPD waiver*. Waivers in respect of long term and/or serious illness, caring duties for a family member**, maternity, paternity or adoption leave, unemployment and career breaks will be granted on a pro-rata basis to the period of absence from work.
You can apply for a waiver via the Professional Development area of your myACCA account. You will need to tell us why you're applying for a waiver and confirm the dates you were absent from work. Supporting evidence must be uploaded for any retrospective waiver and for all waiver applications if you hold a practising certificate. In all cases, you should keep documentary evidence to support the waiver application for a period of three years. This is required in case you're selected for CPD review.

*Please note that if you are an Irish statutory auditor, you are unable to apply for a waiver. You must make good any shortfall you have within a reasonable time period. For any questions regarding this, please contact Professional Development by raising a support case below.
**If you have onerous caring duties, we may grant a waiver of seven verifiable units regardless of whether or not you've had an extended absence from work. To request this, you must contact us by raising a support case below.
