Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is essential for maintaining and enhancing your skills as a finance professional. It’s not always necessary to pay for CPD.

What counts as CPD

To determine if your CPD activity is acceptable, ask yourself:

Was the learning relevant to your career?

Can you explain how you applied it in the workplace?

Can you provide evidence of the activity?

Non-verifiable CPD includes general learning not tied to a specific outcome, such as reading technical articles in AB magazine

Many forms of professional development are accepted by ACCA including:

Work-based learning

Coaching and mentoring

E-learning

Networking and discussion groups

Reading and undertaking research

How ACCA supports your CPD

ACCA provides a comprehensive range of services and tools to help you plan, source and achieve your CPD. These are available on our CPD & events finder page, where you can search for free or discounted activities and events from our CPD partners.

Studying for a qualification? It counts too!

If you're studying for an additional qualification, this can also count towards your CPD - whether part-time or full-time, online or face-to-face. Time spent attending lectures, carrying out research and self-study is eligible, but time spent taking exams is not. Remember to keep evidence of your studies in case you're selected for a CPD review. Once you’re satisfied you’ve met the requirement you should submit your CPD declaration via your MyACCA account, selecting the ‘Unit route’.

CPD for members in non-accounting roles

All members, regardless of their role, must meet the CPD requirement and submit an annual declaration. If you're no longer working in accountancy, your CPD should be relevant to your new field. For example, if you now work in IT, CPD activities focused on IT will be recognised. You’ll still need to complete some accounting CPD, which can be covered under your non-verifiable requirement.
